Anshan,
Liaoning Province
(ann-shan)
An economic boom several decades ago resulted in Anshan, a city of nearly 1.5 million people in northern Liaoning Province, being dubbed "the steel giant of the northeast". Most of the steel produced in this constantly growing city is sent to Shenyang, helping to boost the industrial output of the nearby city. Because of the pollution caused by the steel industry, Anshan is not a popular destination spot for tourists. Unfortunately, as people bypass Anshan, they also bypass the spectacular scenery of the Qian Mountains, which lie just southeast of the city. The ancient Buddhist and Taoist temples found among the mountains still attract people from all over China who come there to pray and find peace. The Korean minority community of Liaoning Province has recently experienced a great Christian revival. Unfortunately, most of the 1.4 million Han Chinese in Anshan have yet to hear of Jesus Christ.
Pray that God will empower believers among the Korean minority to share the gospel among the Han and other people groups in Anshan. Ask the Lord to give every unbeliever in the city the opportunity to hear and receive the good news. |
